How you could Get Involved

There are many ways in which you can get involved as a Surf Life Saving volunteer. Surf Life Saving has opportunities for people to be an active patrol member saving lives on the beach, an age manager for Nippers on the weekend or as a volunteer club official working behind the scenes to ensure things run smoothly.

Train to be a Surf Life Saver

Becoming an active member of Garie SLSC enables you to participate in a wide range of SLS activities. The core duty of our organisation is to provide patrol coverage for our scenic 900 metre stretch of sand. The patrol area is just one part of the club, where lifelong friendships can be built. Volunteer patrol work can be a very rewarding experience, where you find yourself a part of a multi skilled team with a common goal.

From gaining the Surf Rescue Certificate (SRC) you can join a patrol as a cadet member, or Bronze Medallion (BM) as an active senior member, there are then many other SLS educational opportunities available through our club. Advanced Resuscitation Certificate, Spinal Management, Silver Medallion Beach Management, offshore Rescue Crew Certificate, offshore Rescue Boat Driver, are just some of the SLSA certificates that we encourage our patrolling members to attain in the course of their duties.

Join Nippers

The Junior Activities Program or “Nippers” as they are affectionately known, is the “nursery” of future Surf Life Savers. This legendary initiative has seen tens of thousands of Australian children learn the core values of SLSA, whilst enjoying friendships, families, fitness and junior competition.

At Garie our Nipper Program is supported by an outstanding team of Junior Activity Committee (JAC) volunteers, who are more than willing to help ease any new members into the fold. There are opportunities within the program for parents to gain SLSA water safety certificates to become involved with their kids in enjoying the beach. Some cold refreshments, and a “couple of snags” on the BBQ at Garie have always been a popular  way to enjoy our unique surrounds, for Sunday lunch with the kids, where a great family atmosphere always prevails to enrol your kids in nippers click here, if you would like to volunteer at nippers contact nippers@garieslsc.com.au

Take a position on a Sub Committee

The Board, and the officers at Garie Surf Life Saving Club Incorporated are responsible for the smooth operation of the club in line with our club constitution, as well as the operating conditions set and administered by Surf Life Saving Australia, Surf Life Saving New South Wales, and Surf Life Saving Sydney Branch.

It can be a very rewarding experience to work with a team of keen people who look to manage all aspects of a Surf Life Saving club, from supporting  active patrols, junior activities, to SLSA education, social and fundraising opportunities   If there is an area of our club that you think you can assist contact our secretary via email admin@garieslsc.com.au you can also check Our Committee Members Page to view open Committee Positions.
